Third Grade

May 2010

We are in our final push! Students have been doing a great job staying focused and working hard!

In reading: We will finish up the last story in the unit this month and take our very last unit test. After we finish up the Reading series, we are going to start a literature circle with the whole class. Each student will get a book and a responsibility. We are going to read and understand a chapter book together, which is very new and interesting for the students. We are all looking forward to this!

In math: We will be finishing up division. Please keep studying the facts with your student. We will have timed tests to make sure they are still studying. We are going to move on to measurement and fractions. These units should be a lot of fun; I know the students are excited.

In science: We've been working on many experiments, figuring out how and why things move. This will continue through the end of the year! We are currently working on building boats and will move on to discuss what things are made of. This is a very interesting unit for the students!

In social studies: We are going to learn more about Illinois. We've taken virtual field trips to Abraham Lincoln's home in Springfield and to the Capital Building. We are going to be putting together brochures to show the great facts we've learned about our great state! Be on a lookout for those!

In religion: We are going to be discussing Catholicism as a worldwide religion. We are talking about other religions and cultures and comparing how they are similar and different to Catholicism. Students are learning to respect all religions, even if they do not fully understand them because everyone is human, and Jesus wants us to treat others as we wish to be treated.

I am looking forward to this last part of third grade. I cannot believe we are so close to the end. Keep up the great attitudes and remember that we are still completing work. We need the brains to keep thinking even though we are close to the end. I appreciate all the help we've been getting from home. Have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day!
