Music

Mr. Whitaker

Well I've eaten all the chocolate I was given for Christmas, so that means it's time to get back to school. We have so much going on in the music and drama departments at St. Benedict, as we get closer to the Musical, the Spring Concert and all the events surrounding Graduation.
Eighth Grade will be doing several classes on songwriting as well as working on their Group Projects "Music Through the Decades".
Seventh Grade will be exploring Careers in Music (Performance and Non-Performance).
Sixth Grade will continue with their study of a Major Choral Work, Handel's Messiah.
Fifth Grade will be doing a unit on Music Therapy and how music and other art forms can be utilized to improve people's lives.
Fourth Grade will be staging scenes from their Opera, Where the Wild Things Are.
Third Grade will begin staging scenes from their Musical, Disney's Alice In Wonderland.
Second Grade will be learning about singing rounds and canons, both in English and in other languages.
First Grade is going to be creating arrangement in rhythmic notation and performing in small groups what they have written.
Kindergarten will be learning about songwriting while learning an original choral work for young children entitled Mother Goose has lost Her Mind.
Auditions for our Spring Musical, Disney's Beauty and the Beast are coming up next month and we're all very excited about this opportunity to perform this Family Classic which has only recently become available to schools and community theaters.
On a personal note, I will be performing in a play at the Beverly Arts Center January 30 and 31 an February 6 and 7th. The play is Greater Tuna and I will be appearing as eleven characters along with another instructor from the BAC. It's our first attempt at having a professional company at the Arts Center and I would be thrilled to have a big crowd of St. Benedict parents in the audience (it's not a children's play).
