Welcome to January!!!
I hope you had the Merriest Christmas
and the Happiest of New Year. Hopefully
you the opportunity for lots of rest, so we can get a running start on all the
activities that are coming up.
Our focus this month will
be preparing for the Catholic Schools Week activities at the end of January. We will be concentrating on writing samples
and classroom presentations.
In English we are continuing the study of verbs. We will also continue work on our writing
unit which will help students as we approach the March Terra Nova testing.
In Science, we will
complete the Chapter 8 Cells, then begin Chapter 20 which focuses on and
physical and chemical changes.
In Religion, we will
continue with the study in both the Religion and Confirmation texts, plus the
preparation for those students receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. Just a reminder that those students who will
be confirmed are required to attend weekly Mass and write a summary of the gospel/homily. Please check the folder you received at the
Confirmation orientation meeting for upcoming events and projects.
In
This month, the seventh graders will begin a GREAT (Gang Resistance Education and
Training) program which is sponsored by the Blue Island Police Department. Officer King is a “great” teacher and mentor
for the students.
Hopefully Santa brought the students replacements for some of
their “missing” school supplies—scissors, markers, red pens, etc. Some students have been reminded to find
replacements to eliminate the need for borrowing from others. Sharing is very Christian; but it slows down
any work we are trying to accomplish when we have to wait for students who
don’t have their own supplies.
I hope your New Year is full of love,
learning, and prosperity.
“May this new year bring out the best in us that we may bring
out the best in others.” Margie Muniz
