Fourth Grade

May 2010 Newsletter

Well, here we are---the third trimester and almost Fifth Graders!

We are beginning our examination of the eighth commandment---

You Shall Not Bear False Witness Against Your Neighbor.

In English, we completed our study of verbs. We will be moving on to adverbs.

Math has us working on fractions---parts of a whole, parts of a group, equivalent fractions, writing fractions in simplest form, comparing/ordering fractions, mixed numbers, and probability.

We read The Rajah's Rice, which was a mathematical folktale from India.

The main character uses math to solve the villagers' hunger problem.

Science has us studying matter---characteristics, properties, states of matter, plus measurement of matter. The fourth graders took part in many interesting lab experiments.

In Social Studies, we are taking tests on the fifty states, capitals, abbreviations, and locations.

Also, we are studying the geography of Illinois.

We are looking forward to the production of Beauty and the Beast, Friday, May 7th
and our All School Picnic, Friday, May 21st.
See you there!
